Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year. This year our school theme is We Believe. We are excited about all the things we want to make happen for and with your students this school term. Our priorities this year are Higher Math Scores. 8th grade students will have three chances to pass the Math TAKS. Students who don’t will remain in middle school. Stronger Systems. We are trying to make Revere a safer and better place for all students. Hence we’ve made a few changes (like the uniforms) and have gotten a lot tougher on discipline. Please make sure your sons and daughters follow the school rules.
The process of course selection begins with formulating a four-year plan. While many students start this in the spring of 8th grade when we visit our feeder schools, all incoming 9th graders will complete a freshmen course selection sheet when they register. In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet with their dean annually to discuss and revise the plan. A copy of the Four-year Plan document is available here, as is a link to graduation requirements.

There are two kinds of charter schools in Texas. The majority are state charter schools -- autonomous, open-enrollment public schools operating under charters granted by the Texas Education Agency, outside the jurisdiction of local school districts. Such open-enrollment charter schools report directly to the TEA and are not subject to the same regulations as traditional public schools. Open-enrollment charter schools receive the same per-student state funding as local public schools but no money for facilities or start-up. Then there are HISD charter schools, which we hold to higher standards. Our charter schools operate with the approval of the HISD Board of Education and within the jurisdiction of HISD. Although they are not regulated the same way as the other HISD schools, they are accountable for showing measurable results in return for exemption from many of the restrictions that apply to the traditional public schools. Accountability is the key factor behind the superiority of HISD charter schools to other charter schools.
